We make sure your wheels fit precisely and safely
Why choose Alloy Wheel Repair for wheel centre boring?
If you’ve bought aftermarket wheels, changed cars, or imported wheels that don’t quite fit your vehicle hub, the centre bore likely needs machining.
Our precision lathe service enlarges the centre hole of the alloy wheel to perfectly match your hub diameter.

What is wheel centre boring?
Your wheel’s centre bore is the hole that fits over the centre hub of your vehicle.
If it’s too small, the wheel won’t sit flat against the wheel hub, so the wheel cannot be bolted onto the vehicle.
On the other hand, if the centre bore is too large, the wheel will not be centrically mounted or located when the lug nuts are tightened. This will cause vibration, unsafe handling, and alignment issues.
We can supply or fabricate hub sleeves, which will ensure the wheel will locate correctly on the hub to negate these issues.
Centre bore machining (also known as boring or re-boring) precisely enlarges this hole to match undersized wheels to your vehicle’s specifications.
At Alloy Wheel Repair, we use a specialised lathe to bore wheels to hub-centric tolerances.
This service is commonly required when:
- You’ve bought aftermarket wheels that don’t quite fit
- You’re fitting wheels from a different make/model
- You’re importing wheels from overseas
In many cases, customers come to us after being told “these wheels won’t fit.” We help make them fit safely.
What makes we can work with
We can machine most common alloy and mag wheels, including:
- European wheels being fitted to Japanese vehicles or vice versa
- Aftermarket wheels with undersized centre bores
- Aftermarket wheels with oversized centre bores

Our wheel centre boring process
Our process
1. Confirm correct fit specs
We confirm your vehicle’s hub size and inspect the wheel to ensure it can be safely bored.
2. Mount and centre
The wheel is mounted onto our lathe using centring tools that ensure alignment before cutting begins.
3. Machine the bore
Using a precision boring tool, we enlarge the centre hole to match your hub diameter, accurate to fractions of a millimetre.
4. Protective finish
After machining, the bare alloy is treated with an anti-corrosion agent to help protect against oxidation.
5. Once bored, we check hub fitment, deburr the edge, and clean the wheel before refitting or delivery.
If your wheels also need straightening, welding, or refinishing, we can take care of it in the same visit.
