Safe, effective removal of paint and powder coating from metal
Why choose Alloy Wheel Repair for paint stripping?
Chemical stripping is highly effective for even the toughest coatings, without the abrasion of sandblasting that can damage the substrate.
Our chemical stripping service is designed to safely remove heavy-duty paint and powder coat from alloy wheels, bike frames, and metal parts, without damaging the underlying material.
Chemical stripping is the foundation of most of our full restorations. By chemically stripping the part first, we ensure a clean base for TIG welding, CNC machining, or Powder Coating to bond properly and last.
Professional-grade chemical tank designed for safe paint removal | Removes stubborn powder coat and high-temp finishes others can’t | Safer and more complete than DIY grinding or sanding | Handled in a secure, fire-safe environment by trained professionals |
What is chemical paint stripping, and why use a professional vs. DIY?
Chemical paint stripping uses a specially formulated pH-neutral solution to break down paint, powder coat, or other coatings, without compromising the metal underneath.
The part is fully submerged in a temperature-controlled tank and gently agitated until the coating is lifted and ready for gentle removal.
This is different from DIY paint strippers, which rely on aggressive and hazardous chemicals that produce toxic fumes and require multiple rounds of manual scraping.
At Alloy Wheel Repair, we handle everything in a controlled area using a filtered ventilation system and proper PPE and disposal methods, keeping you and the environment safe.

Our chemical paint stripping process
Our process
1. Assess and prep
We inspect the item and remove any rubber, plastic, or sensitive inserts. The components will then be vapour blasted and cleaned thoroughly before being lowered into the strip tank. If needed, we can weld or straighten the item after stripping — see our TIG Welding or Bent & Cracked Wheel Repair services.
2. Submerge in tank
The part is fully immersed in a temperature and pH-controlled chemical tank and left to soak. Time varies depending on coating type and thickness.
3. Rinse and inspect
Once the coating has lifted, we drain and clean the item with high-pressure water, check for remaining debris, and remove any final residue.
4. Bake
If we are refinishing the component in-house, the part is cured in our high-temp oven to ensure all moisture is properly evaporated from the substrate.
5. Cool and prepare
The stripped item is cooled and is then ready for the refinishing process to begin.
