Our Bent, Buckled, or Cracked Wheel Repair Process:
Our process
Step 1: Wheel Removal
For accurate repair, the wheel is removed from the vehicle and the tyre is then stripped from the rim along with the valve and existing wheel weights.
Step 2: Assessment
Our experienced team will thoroughly assess your wheel to determine the extent of the damage and any structural issues. The rim is digitally Measured to identify the high and low points around the circumference. These are marked on the rim in a specific fashion.
Step 3: Heating
The wheel rim is oven heated to predetermined temperature to make the alloy more malleable, aiding in the straightening process.
Step 4: Rerolling
Using specialised pressing and rolling machinery, we carefully straighten the bent/ buckled/twisted sections of the rim ensuring precision and avoiding further damage.
Step 5: Stress Relief
Post-straightening stress relief techniques are applied to ensure long-term stability. If the wheel has been subjected to severe bending where the alloy has been stretched, the wheel will undergo a heat treating process to restore its tensile strength and ductility.
Step 6: Wheel Truing and Balancing
We ensure the repaired wheel rotates smoothly to within predetermined tolerances, which maintains proper balance for a safe, vibration-free driving experience. Minor areas of run out may be machined away so that the wheel is perfectly round again.
Step 7: Surface Inspection
The wheel is inspected for cosmetic damage. If required a full cosmetic refurbishment may be undertaken if authorised by the owner.
Step 8: Priming
To enhance corrosion resistance and to promote proper adhesion of the base colour, a primer is applied once the wheel substrate has been properly prepared.
Step 9: Painting or Powder Coating (Optional)
We restore the wheel’s appearance with paint, powder coating, or CNC diamond cutting depending on the specific wheel design and finish.
Step 10: Final Inspection
A thorough quality check ensures the wheel meets our high structural integrity and appearance standards.
Step 11: Reinstallation
Once the repair is complete, the tyre is refitted and a new valve installed in most cases. The wheel is then balanced before finally being refitted to the vehicle. The lug nuts are then torqued to the required specification and finally the tyre pressures are reset.
